Mr. Gatewood
Mr. Gatewood: "I, as well as the staff here at Harding University High School, are determined to restore this institution back to where it belongs. Harding has a rich tradition of academic excellence, and even though we have fallen on hard times, this neighborhood and community has what it takes to once again be THE school in CMS and once again be nationally recognized for its academics. We are Ram Tough, and no one will deny our Rams an golden opportunity to achieve an excellent education!" |
Who We Are |
This class is not only mine, but also of the students who will be in the trenches with me each day. This is not a dictatorship where its "my way or the highway." This is a democracy, a partnership in which the students will create the foundations of our class culture in the coming weeks. We will grow together and the students will, by the end of the semester, have a deep understanding of Civics and Economics, and will be able to translate this over to the North Carolina Final Exam (NCFE). No child will be left behind, but students must be onboard and committed to bringing their best to our arena each day, as will I. It will be tough, it will be challenging, your children may not always like me, but understand that everything that I do will be out of tough love. There will be times designated after school on days during the week for extra help and tutoring. Every opportunity will be given for all students to pass this class, but at the end of the day, it is up to your child to produce in order to pass. Nothing will be given to them in the real world, and I will not give them anything in this class. We are an IB school, and all children will be expected to display the traits of the IB learned profile (Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, and Reflective).

Where We Are Going |
We are aiming for the stars! It is better to aim for the stars and come up short than to aim for the moon and land on the ground. We are aiming for 100% mastery on the NCFE, which means that every child will pass the final exam and pass the class. The greatest innovators dared to dream when no one believed in them, and we will dare to be perfect in our class.
